Home care for the elderly and especially mobile care services are becoming increasingly important. In the past, families were able to cope with this themselves due to their size, but today families are smaller or, as here on Tenerife, far away. All the services we provide for you are covered by private care insurance companies. Unfortunately, the statutory health insurance funds only pay for the care allowance abroad. According to the health and long-term care insurance funds, the benefits in kind are not exported.

Preventive care abroad in the EU/EEA or in Switzerland Persons in need of care with at least care level 2 are entitled to preventive care if their regular private caregiver is temporarily unable to provide care due to holidays, illness or other reasons. Under certain conditions, the competent long-term care insurance fund will then pay the proven costs for substitute care for a maximum of six weeks in a calendar year. In principle, benefits from the German social long-term care insurance are not provided abroad. However, there is an exception to this rule for the care allowance, which is paid when the person in need of care is staying in another EU/EEA country or in Switzerland. In 2016, the Federal Social Court ruled that the prevention care replaces the care allowance for the time the caregiver is prevented from providing care. As a result, preventive care - as a substitute for care allowance - can, under certain conditions, also be granted by the German long-term care insurance fund when the person is staying in another EU/EEA country or in Switzerland. When checking whether the prerequisites for the granting of preventive care in foreign cases are fulfilled, problems occasionally arise.
Entitlement to benefits in the case of full inpatient care in other EU/EEA countries or Switzerland According to the European regulations on the coordination of social security, insured persons living in other EU/EEA countries or Switzerland receive cash benefits - such as long-term care allowance - paid abroad by their German long-term care insurance fund in accordance with German law. In contrast, long-term care benefits in kind - such as accommodation in a full inpatient care facility - are not granted by German long-term care insurance funds for the benefit of insured persons living in other EU/EEA countries or Switzerland, but must be paid by the foreign insurance providers. If the foreign law does not provide for the corresponding benefit, the respective benefit in kind cannot be claimed, but at most the German long-term care allowance abroad. In the event that benefits in kind are granted by the foreign institution, the German long-term care allowance must be reduced by the amount of the benefits in kind provided under foreign law.
